Handspun roving
Merino Roving— so delicious!
In April I bought an 8 oz hand-painted merino roving from Interlacements, and finally got around to spinning it up. The “Wind Me Up” colorway is a gorgeous combination of purple, fushia and green, with some orange-gold and white accents. Triadic color schemes can be hard to balance well without looking dull, but the dyer, Tracey Schuh, included a deep purple to increase contrast and set off the lighter greens and gold. Love the drama of this colorway!
Just blowin’ in the wind

So much variety from just a few colors!
This yarn is destined for a simple mosaic or knit-purl stitch project. These stitch types are especially nice with self-striping yarn. To create stripes of solid and barberpole colors, I split the roving lengthwise into 8 sections and spun with a short draw to preserve long lengths of single colors, Then I chain plied the singles to create a lofty 3-ply yarn. Eight oz of roving gave me 600 yds of yarn— now it’s time to design a project to fit!
